Application of polished stucco does not have to be a difficult job. Use a steel trowel or spatula, letting each layer dry before moving on to the next. Once the final layer has dried, you can move on to the polishing. This does not mean complete curing, which takes 24 to 36 hours, but rather a superficial dryness after 2 to 3 hours. Use the spatula to press the surface very firmly, repeatedly. For additional smoothness and water resistance, you can add a layer of wax coating. For a more antique-looking finish, sand the surface with fine grained sandpaper, bringing out the sandy texture in the plaster. Remember to seal exterior surfaces for protection from the elements and humidity, as well as increased general durability.
